Dr. Keisha Downey

LMFT

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University and my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. I have been working in the field of mental health for the last 12 years. I have experience with diverse populations, in various settings to include, community outpatient, group home, schools, and private practice. My experience includes helping my clients properly cope with severe life challenges that stem from depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, substance abuse, parent-child relationships, crisis intervention, just to name a few. My experience also extends to facilitating women, parenting, adolescent, and drug groups on utilizing effective communication and coping skills. My style of therapy is shaped from my education, self awareness, and life experiences…all which have allowed me the opportunity to work with various people of different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, lifestyles, and ethnicities. I take time with my clients focusing on the psychosocial and biological aspects of their lives to formulate the best therapy approach to help them reach their goals. I provide an accepting and non-judgmental environment so that my clients can express their inner thoughts regardless of what those inner thoughts may be. I am currently a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, a contributor to a New York health and training facility for individuals and couples, and also an expert panelist for couples events and mental health discussions in Los Angeles, Chicago, and surrounding areas. I am also a Resident Counselor on VH1's television series, "Couples Therapy with Dr. Jenn".

What is your typical process for working with a new clients?

Once you let us know you would like to start services. You will receive a call to set an appointment date and time. After that call you will receive a welcome email with the initial paperwork and my phone number in case you need to reschedule prior to the appointment. Next, show up for your appointment with the initial paperwork and a photo id and insurance card if you are using insurance. The initial session is to gather some history about you and delve a bit deeper into what it is you would like to work on in therapy. At the end of the first session you can schedule the next session or determine if you would like to make it a weekly/bi-weekly or monthly recurring session.

Insurance co-pay or session charge is usually collected at the end of the session.
